We understand that it is not always possible to pay respects in person, & hope that this small token will help.
Ionia Chapel |
The Ionia Chapel was completely renovated in 2006. A handicap accessible ramp was added to the outside of the building. The inside was remodeled to provide a large chapel to better serve our families.
This landmark house, begun in 1881 and completed in 1891, was the home of the Winslow P. Burhans family. It was occupied by Amelia Burhans, widow of W.P. Burhans, who died before the home was completed.
The style, Chateauesqe, with Queen Anne and Richardsonian elements, has a varigated Ionia sandstone as the basic exterior finish. The porches and windows are elements found in Queen Anne houses.
The light of the house, indeed, its jewels, are the many Tiffany stained glass windows which were designed by the original owners.
This home was used as a family residence for many years before becoming a funeral establishment in the 1940's.
